Dishawna Barnard, Licensed Homebirth Midwife, Doula, Placenta Encapsulation

My name is Dishawna (pronounced Dee-Shawna). I am a passionate Labor Doula as well as a Licensed Midwife. My journey into birthwork began with the birth of my own children, each of whom was brought into this world with the help of a midwife. Those experiences inspired me to pursue this calling, guiding and supporting families through one of the most transformative times of their lives.

Very early in my motherhood journey, I became involved with La Leche League, a wonderful community that supports breastfeeding families. I nursed all of my babies for over two years each. While I understand that extended breastfeeding may not be the right path for every family, my personal experience gives me the ability to provide encouragement, resources, and real-life tips to those who wish to explore breastfeeding for themselves. In addition to my personal experience, I’ve spent years reading, researching, and staying up-to-date on lactation education—not only to help myself but to better serve the families I work with.

As both a doula and a midwife, I have had the honor of supporting a wide variety of births. I have experience supporting VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) labors and have witnessed firsthand how empowering and beautiful those experiences can be when families are given the right care and support. I also have familiarity with The Bradley Method and Hypnobirthing, both of which can be wonderful techniques for those seeking a more natural, relaxed labor experience. Birthwork has been a part of my life since 2010, and every family I’ve served has taught me something valuable.

My midwifery training began formally in 2016 at the National College of Midwifery. This program allowed me to complete my education through distance learning, paired with local, hands-on apprenticeship with skilled midwives. After four years of dedicated study and apprenticeship, I passed my national board exam and officially became a Licensed Midwife in January 2020. Every year, I continue my education to ensure I am providing the safest, most informed care possible. This includes certifications in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), as well as specialized training like Spinning Babies and breech birth workshops.

My Birth Services and Service Area

I currently live between the Coeur d’Alene (CDA) and Post Falls area in North Idaho. I typically travel up to 25 to 30 minutes from my home to serve families. For locations outside of that range, I am open to traveling farther with travel compensation discussed in advance.

The services I offer include Homebirth Midwifery, Monitrice services, Birth Doula support, Placenta Encapsulation, Childbirth Education, and SneakPeek gender reveal testing. I’m here to support families every step of the way, from pregnancy through postpartum.

I primarily serve North Idaho and Eastern Washington, including Coeur d’Alene, Dalton Gardens, Hayden, Post Falls, Rathdrum, Spirit Lake, Twin Lakes, Athol, Plummer, Hauser, Pinehurst, Kellogg, Rockford Bay, Liberty Lake, Otis Orchards, Spokane Valley, and Spokane itself. I’m also able to serve other parts of Kootenai, Bonner, and Spokane Counties.

It is truly my honor to walk alongside families on their journey to parenthood, offering skilled, compassionate, and personalized care every step of the way.
